Mushroom

(or, too much time on my hands).

Photos of a real mushroom which grew in my yard (circa 1991-92)
Anyone know what variety it is? Replys will be posted below. E-mail Us

Reply of June 27, 2003.... Unfortunately, some of the most poisonous mushrooms there are-- are the ones that regularly grow on lawns. I`m no Mycologist, but I have been an amateur mushroom hunter for 15 years. An 'educated' guess at this one would be one of the Amanitae. Noting the color (pure white) / the location (open/grassy/sunny) / the 'ring' on the stem (remains of the "veil"-- a thin, encapsulating membrane that encloses the mushroom when it first breaks the surface) Warning: Nearly all amanitae are deadly-poisonous and should be avoided. They are involved in most serious mushroom poisonings because of their easy availability/ beauty-- if there are young children in your household - I`d remove all that you see as a precaution...
